This class will explore how to make Fine Detail End Grain Boxes with Finials
Tue, May 26, 2026 at 9:00 AM
Advance your skills with one of wood turning’s most misunderstood tools, the skew chisel. Learn how to develop fine tool control, body finesse, and proper sharpening will create fine, satisfying results. We will cover roughing, shaping & shearing, making planing cuts for a clean burnish, and scraping through projects that are achievable for everyone. We will also take a close look at different shapes of the skew, grain orientation, and explore why certain grinds can be more ergonomically effective than others. Students will discover why the skew chisel can be one of the most helpful & beneficial tools for any woodturner.
Wed, May 27, 2026 at 9:00 AM
Learn to express the excitement and joy of creating, shaping, and finishing beautifully elegant plates and platters on the lathe. Explore how to add fine detail to accentuate and reinforce balance within the overall form. Emphasis will be placed on proper technique, tool control and finesse, the nuances of sharpening, and creating fine finishes. We’ll explore form in depth, and focus on creating lasting, well-designed and crafted objects to be shared with others for generations to come. This course requires some prior experience in woodturning but is open to those working at a beginner level.
